Geometry is an important math component that helps in understanding and describing the fundamental properties of the physical world, enabling one to solve real-world problems, build structures and has its importance in nearly all fields including science, art, engineering, architecture, construction, and so on. Trigonometry helps understand angles and distances and make predictions based on the information available. Both branches of math help develop a concrete understanding of the physical world.

 

A strong foundation in geometry and trigonometry is necessary for the IB program. Topics ranging from area, volume, basic to advanced trigonometry are required. However, each concept is required to be studied in depth, hence requiring students to have a thorough understanding of each shape. New concepts like Voronoi diagrams also require a good understanding of coordinate geometry and their application to real word scenarios.

 

With the complexity levels increasing, students are expected to visualise several 3-D shapes and then perform the calculations.
