Application and Interpretations SL

The IB Application and Interpretations course recognizes the importance of mathematics and technology in a data-rich world. It focuses on the application of math in a realistic world, involving the extensive use of technology to analyse various scenarios, which will help to develop different critical and analytical skills.

 

For the IB AI SL course, the syllabus has been divided into 5 parts:

• Numbers and Algebra
• Functions
• Geometry & Trigonometry
• Statistics and Probability
• Calculus

 

Each of these components is vital for developing a holistic understanding of math that is required at university level. Students pursuing this will develop good algebraic skills and the ability to solve real-world problems.

 

Students studying the content at the Standard Level have to appear for two papers: Paper 1 and Paper 2. They have access to a calculator for both papers.

• Paper 1 focuses on short answer questions ranging from 5 to 8 marks each, and has a total of 80 marks.
• Paper 2 focuses on longer questions, ranging from 12 to 18 marks, and has a total of 80 as well. The range of topics is wider for paper 1 than for paper 2, as in paper 2, fewer topics are taken but the depth for each is significant.

           

            The courses designed for AI SL on Math Me Up are created in a way such that there is adequate focus on each concept for each part. We as teachers understand that students can get overwhelmed with the vastness of the syllabus. Hence, each topic is covered in great depth and can be used as a revision and practice guide while preparing for assessments. The IB is a rigorous and intensive two-years program that requires students to have good time management skills. The content on Math Me Up can be a go-to for any student at any point in time. Regular revision, viewing of videos and practice can help students cope and score well in their IB boards.
